In observance of Stress Awareness Month, and in recognition of recent data privacy concerns and security breaches, channel partners should offer their customers relief from the stresses which come with living in a digitally connected world. Now, more than ever, end users are realizing how valuable and vulnerable their data is and why it needs to be protected. They need thought leaders like you and other Ingram Micro solution providers to guide them as experts in the security space.
Constant Cyber Attacks are Stressful
Cyberthreats will never go away; we are constantly under attack. On March 20, Orbitz announced that they discovered a data breach which may have compromised roughly 880,000 credit cards. According to Orbitz’ investigation, hackers may have accessed customer data that had been submitted to a legacy website between January 1, 2016 and June 22, 2016. Furthermore, Orbitz’ partner platform may have also been breached, exposing submitted data from January 1, 2016 to December 22, 2017.
More recently, the WannaCry ransomware has reared its ugly head once again. This time, the victim was Boeing Commercial Airplanes. On March 28, the WannaCry virus affected a small number of machines with Windows embedded into their systems. Fortunately, the outbreak was limited and quickly contained. Nevertheless, the threat was very grave and potentially disastrous for the large manufacturer.
Finally, just one day after the Boeing attack, popular fitness company Under Armour announced that they had discovered a breach of their app, MyFitnessPal. Approximately 150 million user accounts are affected, and stolen information includes usernames, email addresses, and passwords.
The discovery of data breaches and successful cyberattacks are growing in frequency. Under Armour experienced a 2% drop in stock value following the breach announcement. For smaller companies, the consequences are usually more severe – they go out of business. Fortunately, your customers are not defenseless.
